# Create an app from a template

Templates package a layout with the workflow recipes, connection requirements, and parameters needed to create an app. The gallery includes platform starters and templates saved by your team. Creating from one provisions a new app; it does not open a shared copy of the template author's live data.

## Before you begin

Decide what to call the app and gather any inputs requested by the template. These may include topics, document selections, instructions, or a connection to an external service. A required value without a default must be supplied before creation. If the template needs capabilities unavailable in your deployment, resolve those requirements before provisioning.

## Create the app

1. Open **Apps**, then **New App**.
2. Under **Start from a template**, browse **All**, **Platform**, or **My templates**, or search by name.
3. Select the template and wait for its configuration form to load.
4. Enter a **Name** and optionally adjust the **App id** and **Description**. The name initially supplies the suggested id. Once you edit the id yourself, name changes no longer replace it.
5. Select a supported **Default LLM model** when the template uses model-backed workflows.
6. Fill in the template-specific fields. Read the field descriptions and provide every required value. Use the document picker when the template requests existing documents.
7. Choose **Create app**. The completed app opens in its workspace.

Defaults come from the selected template. Switching templates resets template-specific parameter values, so recheck the form before submitting. A description can inherit the template's text or be replaced for this app.

## When creation is blocked

An app id must be unique within your tenant, including ids retained in Trash. Strive can suggest a different id; deliberately entered ids require your choice before replacement. See [App names and identifiers](/docs/apps/identifiers).

Invalid or missing fields appear inline. Unsupported model, connection, runner, or workflow-pack requirements must be corrected rather than bypassed. If a selected template can no longer be loaded, refresh the gallery and select an available template.

Later edits to the original template do not silently redefine this app's parameter contract. The app keeps the template version from which it was created. Use [Parameters](/docs/apps/parameters) for ongoing configuration and [Template management](/docs/apps/template-management) for reusable starters.
