# Change an app's settings

**Settings** contains the app's own record: its name, description, lifecycle policy, and sharing configuration. Template-specific topics, instructions, cadence, connector policy, and model choices belong in **Parameters** when available.

## Rename or describe an app

1. Open the app workspace and choose **Settings**.
2. Edit **Name** and **Description** under Details.
3. Choose **Save changes**.
4. Check the updated title and Apps card.

A name is required. An empty description clears the previous description. The description appears on the card and at the top of the workspace, so explain the task and intended audience rather than adding private connection details.

Renaming does not change the app id or its address. Choose ids carefully during creation; use the display name for later wording changes.

## Change runtime behavior

Choose Always on, Timed, or On demand in **Lifecycle**. A duration field appears for the modes that use it: lease length for Timed and idle timeout for On demand. Whole-minute values must meet the displayed minimum and the 24-hour policy maximum. Clearing the duration selects the server default.

If an existing duration is not a whole number of minutes, the form explains the stored seconds. Leaving the field untouched preserves that exact value; explicitly entering or clearing a value changes the policy.

Changing lifecycle is a deliberate policy action. Extending one current timed session is a different task performed from Overview. See [Choose a lifecycle](/docs/apps/lifecycle).

## Save and recover

Save is unavailable while the settings are already being saved or the app is being deleted. A failed save keeps the current draft on screen so you can correct or retry it. Wait for a successful outcome before assuming a new policy is in effect.

Sharing controls save through their own actions in the same Settings view. Review [Sharing](/docs/apps/sharing) before opening the app to teammates, other organizations, or anonymous visitors.
