# Review and control Assistant changes

The Assistant makes changes through proposals. A card names the action and target and shows the relevant changes. Your choice applies to that proposal, not to every future action.

## Choose an approval mode

**Ask before changes** keeps ordinary changes waiting for approval. **Apply automatically** permits eligible routine changes to proceed within the conversation's rules. Actions classified as explicit, destructive, resource-consuming, or requiring a person can still require a card or a manual handoff.

Changing the mode does not grant a missing role or make an external service read-only. Check the action itself, especially when it calls a connected service.

## Review a card

1. Confirm the target item, including its app or connection.
2. Read the proposed values or difference. Check names, schedules, selected sources, and destination choices.
3. Choose **Apply** to proceed, **Change something** to revise the request, or **Cancel** to leave it unapplied.
4. Follow the resulting operation or run until its final status is known.

A proposal can be superseded if the item changed while you were reading it. Strive does not silently apply a stale proposal over newer work. Ask for a fresh proposal based on the current item.

## Human-only actions

Some operations must happen through a person's product controls. For example, a human review decision is an attestation about a particular payload and evidence basis. The Assistant can help prepare or explain that review; it does not become its human reviewer.

A handoff panel identifies the manual path when the action cannot be carried out by the Assistant. Complete the requested operation on that page, then return to the conversation if needed.

## Undo is conditional

Many applied changes offer Undo while the affected item remains compatible with reversal. Permanent deletion, external effects, consumed compute, and some publication operations cannot be undone. Read the card's explanation and see [Undo and recovery](/docs/assistant/undo-and-recovery).
