# Enable, disable, and delete workflows

Workflow lifecycle actions determine whether a process remains available and how it is retired. Use disabling for a reversible pause in normal operation; use deletion only when the workflow and its dependencies are no longer needed.

## Enable or disable

Use the available workflow action to change its enabled state. Confirm the resulting state in the list or detail page. When enabling an automated workflow, recheck its trigger, source scope, and destination so resumed activity is intentional.

Disabling is different from cancelling a run already in progress. Open the run and cancel it separately when you need to stop active work. Inspect partial effects afterward.

## Apply bulk actions

Select the workflows you intend to manage. The bulk action bar reports the selection count and offers available Enable, Disable, and Delete actions. Review the names and count before applying an action; filters can change which rows you see.

Bulk actions act on the selected workflows and can encounter individual permission or dependency failures. Recheck the list and visible result rather than assuming every selected row changed successfully.

## Delete with care

An authorized member can delete a workflow when their available capabilities permit it; deletion requires a destructive confirmation. Cancelling the confirmation leaves the workflow intact. Deleting a workflow removes its definition, run history, and workflow-owned derived records. External writes and independent business records are not automatically reversed. Do not use deletion as an experiment when you need the execution history for investigation.

An app can block deletion because it still references the workflow. An app in Trash can retain that reference until restored or permanently removed. Resolve the consuming app deliberately; deleting the workflow first would break its dependency.

A blocker can belong to another member. In that case, the workflow may be visible while the app is not accessible from your own Apps list. Contact the owner or an administrator instead of treating the inaccessible app as nonexistent.

For a reversible definition change, use [versions](/docs/workflows/versions). For an independent experiment, [duplicate](/docs/workflows/duplicate-workflow). For immediate execution problems, use [troubleshooting](/docs/workflows/troubleshooting).
