Originals and retention

Distinguish uploaded originals, current files, captured evidence, and retained revisions.

Strive can hold several different representations of a document. Understanding them helps you choose the correct file to read, export, replace, or delete.

RepresentationPurpose
Provider fileCurrent item in the external storage account.
App importIndependent managed copy captured for the App.
Extracted contentText, segments, and structured information produced by processing.
Captured evidenceVerified retained bytes used for a particular review or table draft.
Managed revisionImmutable content version of a logical managed document.

Download the right source

Use the original download when you need the uploaded file rather than its extracted text. Use captured evidence when verifying a value from an earlier extraction. The latest provider file can differ from both of those.

A native cloud export can also be a portable representation rather than the editable original. Confirm the format and source revision before treating it as authoritative.

Retention settings

Retained originals in document processing are kept indefinitely by default unless the workspace explicitly sets a positive original-retention period. When such a period applies, expiry is measured from processing completion. Download availability can therefore change even while extracted content has a separate lifecycle.

This original-retention setting is not a blanket policy for every App snapshot, review receipt, managed revision, or external provider file. Review evidence and whole-App purge have their own behavior. Ask the workspace administrator about the policy relevant to your material.

Deletion is scoped

Deleting an original or source output does not establish that every representation everywhere has been erased. Managed logical deletion and physical cleanup are separate stages. Review the action's scope and receipt, and use the specific lifecycle controls for the representation you intend to remove.
