Configure workflow steps

Use typed fields, defaults, constraints, and execution controls.

Selecting a job opens the settings for its handler. The form reflects that handler's declared configuration, so different jobs have different fields. Field help describes the expected value, and constraint indicators show bounds such as allowed lengths or numeric ranges.

Complete a configuration

  1. Select a handler from the job picker.
  2. Set a unique job ID and inspect Depends on.
  3. Fill every required field.
  4. Review defaults rather than assuming they match your use case.
  5. Check advanced execution controls where the handler exposes them.
  6. Validate the workflow and inspect a small run.

Strings, numbers, and booleans are distinct types. A numeric-looking string is not necessarily accepted where a number is required. A blank field, an omitted setting, and an explicit null can have different meanings. Use the field's help and reference page to decide.

Structured values

Fixed choices use a selector. Key-value objects use editable rows; each key should be unique. Arrays of objects use repeated structured entries. General objects and arrays can use JSON input.

Malformed JSON is shown as an error. The form may retain the last valid value while the text is invalid, so correct the error before saving instead of assuming the malformed text became the workflow's configuration. Use double quotes in JSON and remove trailing commas.

Specialized fields help you choose connections, models, record fields, JSONPaths, URLs, and templates. Suggestions are conveniences, not a guarantee that every record contains the suggested field.

Shared controls

Execution controls can include retry count, backoff, error policy, timeout, and maximum input records. Handler contracts can impose stricter limits than values requested by the workflow. Increasing a number does not bypass workspace budgets or a provider's restrictions.

Some app-managed workflows protect their job structure to preserve a reviewed process. Use their supported app settings instead of attempting to replace guarded steps.
